VATRY: A plane carrying more than 300 Indian passengers bound to Nicaragua has been grounded in France over suspected “human trafficking,” said authorities on Friday.
The plane carrying passengers are likely to be victims of human trafficking was detained after an anonymous tipoff.
The Paris public prosecutor’s office told media that the national anti-organized crime unit JUNALCO has started the investigation.
According to French officials the A340 aircraft operated by Romanian company Legend Airlines, remained grounded on the tarmac at Vatry airport after its landing.
The plane had to be refueled and was carrying 303 Indian citizens.
Media reports quoting a source familiar with the case, said the Indian passengers might have planned to travel to Central America so that they could illegally enter into the United States or Canada.
Earlier, the Governor of US southern state of Texas signed a new law permitting the arrest of the people illegally crossing the border with Mexico.
Record numbers of migrants have been apprehended while crossing the US-Mexico border since Biden, a Democrat, took office in 2021.
