RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces foiled an attack by Indian-sponsored terrorists on a security forces check post in South Waziristan district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing all four terrorists, including a suicide bomber, and destroying an explosive-laden vehicle, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.

“On 25 July 2026, a cowardly terrorist attack was attempted on a Security Forces Check Post in South Waziristan District by khwarij belonging to Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij. The same was successfully foiled killing all four khwarij, including a suicide bomber and destroying an explosive-laden vehicle,” the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said.

Fitna al-Khawarij is the term the state uses for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The terrorists attempted to breach the security of the check post but were foiled due to the alertness and swift response of security forces.

“The khwarij sought to breach the check post security; however, their nefarious designs were checked and decisively foiled by the vigilant and resolute response of security forces,” ISPR stated.

The attackers’ explosives-laden vehicle driven by a suicide bomber was engaged and destroyed outside the perimeter of the check post before it could reach its target, according to the military’s media wing.

The suicide bomber was killed in the explosion, while the blast caused no damage to the check post, ISPR said.

“The attackers’ explosive-laden vehicle was successfully engaged and destroyed outside the perimeters of post killing one suicide bomber in it, which failed to cause any damage.”

Security personnel later surrounded three other terrorists who had taken refuge in a nearby compound. All three terrorists were killed during a deliberate clearance operation with precision, the statement added.

“Displaying unwavering courage and professional excellence, Security personnel engaged the remaining intruders, forcing three khwarij in a nearby compound, who were later neutralised in a deliberate clearance operation with precision.”

No security personnel were injured during the operation, the military’s media wing stated.

A search and sanitisation operation is underway in the area to eliminate any remaining Indian-sponsored terrorists, ISPR said.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations under the Azm-i-Istehkam campaign, the military stated. Counterterrorism operations against India-backed Fitna al-Khawarij would continue until the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism is eliminated from the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised security forces for thwarting the terrorist attack, lauding their timely response and professional action.

In a statement, President Zardari commended the forces for defeating the terrorists’ “nefarious designs” through a swift and decisive operation.

“The security forces foiled the nefarious designs of terrorists through timely and decisive action,” the president said.

He said security forces and law enforcement agencies were continuing operations against terrorism with full determination and resolve.

“Terrorists and their facilitators will be defeated in all circumstances,” he added.

Interior Minister Naqvi also paid tribute to the security forces for foiling the attempted suicide attack.

“The nation is proud of the officers and personnel of Pakistan’s security forces,” the interior minister said.

He said security forces were fighting terrorism with “unwavering resolve and extraordinary spirit” and achieving significant successes.
