NEW YORK: Former US President Donald Trump’s longtime executive Allen Weisselberg was sentenced on Tuesday to 5-month jail for helping engineer a 15 years tax fraud scheme at the Trump Organization.

He is likely to be sent to New York’s tarnished Rikers Island prison. The Trump Organization’s former chief financial officer (CFO) pleaded guilty in last August, confessing that from 2005 to 2017 he and other executives had received bonuses that saved the firm and themselves money.
The sentence was executed by Justice Juan Merchan in a New York state court in Manhattan. Weisselberg, who also had paid about $2 million in taxes, penalties, and interest as part of his sentence, will likely serve 100 days in prison with time off for good conduct.

The prison time will probably not be easy for him, at a facility known for drugs, violence, and corruption. Nineteen prisoners there died in 2022. Craig Rothfeld, a prison consultant helping Weisselberg prepare for lockup told him that he (Weisselberg) is going into a “byzantine black hole”.
