ISLAMABAD/ PERTH: A five-year-old girl saved her baby brother’s life after a car accident killed their parents and left the three young children stranded in the wreckage for more than two days in a remote rural area of Western Australia.
According to CNN affiliate Nine News, the family’s Land Rover Discovery was discovered on Tuesday morning near Kondinin, located approximately 280 kilometres east of the state capital Perth.
Parents killed on road
According to a statement from Western Australia Police, the children’s parents Cindy Braddock, 25, and Jake Day, 28, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Even though their three children were alive after the incident, they were locked in the hot car for hours until a worried relative found them.
According to Nine News, the family of five, including the girl and her two younger brothers, was reported missing a day prior when they failed to show up for a Christmas Day celebration.
Michael Read, a relative, told Nine News that the 5-year-old girl freed her smallest brother from his kid seat and saved his life. According to the relative, “the one-year-old wouldn’t be with us today if the five-year-old hadn’t undone the car seat’s buckle”.
According to the relative of the victims, their plight was made worse by high temperatures.
He told Nine News: “They were trapped in the car for 55 hours in 30-degree (Celsius, or roughly 86-degree Fahrenheit) heat. Nobody is aware of what they endured.”
According to the authorities, the kids had serious dehydration when rushed to the hospital.
They survived with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to be discharged from the hospital in the coming days.
