KYIV: At least five persons were killed, and 20 others were injured when Russian forces strike on the center of Kherson, the southern city of Ukraine, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, a presidential aide said on Saturday.
Shortly after, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the strikes as an act of “terror.”
“These are not military installations,” Zelenskiy wrote in a post on Telegram. He said that the attacks were “killing for the sake of pleasure and intimidation.”
“It is the real life of Ukraine after the Russian invasion… The world must understand and see what absolute enemy we are fighting against,” the Ukrainian President said.
Russia’s retreat from Kherson
On the day marking 10 months of Russian invasion, a string of shelling rained down around a busy Saturday market in Kherson city, where a fire also erupted.
Despite Russia’s retreat from Kherson in November, the city remains within reach of Moscow’s weaponry and under constant threat.
On December 15, Russian shelling killed two people, including a Red Cross worker in Kherson, completely cutting power in the southern city. – AFP/APP
