LAHORE: Senior actor Majid Jahangir, who brought smiles to people’s faces in the comedy-drama ‘Fifty Fifty’, passed away on Wednesday in Lahore.

‘Fifty-Fifty’ was a popular Pakistan Television Corporation sketch comedy series which was aired on the Pakistan Television from 1978 to 1984. It based loosely on the American comedy show ‘Saturday Night Live’, considered by many critics as one of the best television shows ever produced in Pakistan.
The content of the show included parody and satire with some slapstick comedy. It was widely considered as a trendsetter in its genre with its content being ethnically balanced. Actor Majid Jahangir, who captivated the audience with his spontaneous acting and laughter in other dramas including the drama serial ‘Fifty Fifty’, was undergoing treatment at his own residence. As per the family, Majid Jahangir had suffered a stroke and the doctors advised him to rest completely. A month ago, Majid Jahangir had fallen from the bed at home, his spine was fractured due to the fall from the bed, and he was already suffering from a respiratory disease that had worsened.
Son of Majid Jahangir, Fahad Majid has said that his father will be buried in Karachi. The famous Pakistani comedian Majid Jahangir gained fame with the Pakistan television drama series Fifty Fifty in the 80s.
Majid Jahangir was honoured with the highest accolade in Pakistan, the Pride of Performance Award for his memorable performance in ‘Fifty-Fifty’. He starred in four films and worked for Pakistan Television Network (PTV) for 22 years.
