FIFA World Cup 2022: Croatia Beat Japan 3-1 in Penalty Shootout

ISLAMABAD: In the latest round 2 match at the FIFA World Cup 2022, Croatia defeated Japan after a penalty shootout 3-1 at Qatar’s Al Wakrah Stadium.

Croatia, the 2018 finalists, had much to thank their goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic as he saved three of Japan’s spot kicks.

At the end of the allotted 90 minutes, scores between Croatia and Japan were level at one goal each. After the allotted 30 minutes of extra time, the stalemate had failed to end as the scores were still 1-1.

FIFA World Cup Match: Japan Takes Lead

Earlier, in the first half of the game, in the 44th minute the Japanese player Daizen Maeda took the lead for the Asian side. At halftime, Japan led 1-0.

After the start of the second half, in the 55th minute, Ivan Persic scored for Croatia to level the scores.

From there onwards till the end of the extra time, the deadlock between the sides remained.
