NEW YORK: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said he does not agree with the negative approach other leaders are showing towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish media quoted him as saying on Thursday.

Erdogan Rejects Negative Approach Toward Russian President

Speaking to media persons in New York after attending the UN General Assembly, President Erdogan said Russia was not a nation that could be ignored and expressed hope that the Black Sea grain agreement would be revived.

“Both leaders and PMs have negative approaches towards President Putin. Of course, we do not reflect this position. I also do not find these approaches accurate,” Erdogan was quoted as saying.

Turkish President said, “Be it with its position in the globe, Moscow has a clear place. In terms of grain production, Russia is one of the few nations around the world now. Therefore, you cannot disregard a nation like this,”.

Ankara has sought to maintain good ties with both Russia and Ukraine since Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022. Turkey has been working to persuade Russia to return to the Black Sea Grain deal, which it brokered with the UN, Reuters reported.

After Russia’s withdrawal ended a year of protected exports of grain from ports of Ukraine amid the conflict, President Erdogan has said he would work with Russian President Putin, with whom he has good personal relations, to revive the agreement, calling on West to do their part.
