WELLINGTON: Amy Jones and Charlie Dean’s remarkable partnership, the seventh-wicket record, rescued England from a precarious position, propelling them to a thrilling four-wicket victory against New Zealand in Wellington.

New Zealand, batting first, managed to set a total of 207 and initially troubled England, reducing them to 79-6. However, Jones (92 not out) and Dean (42 not out) showcased composure and skill, guiding England to victory with an unbeaten 130-run stand.

Their performance surpassed the previous record set by India’s Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar in 2022. Jones attributed their success to staying focused on the present moment, emphasizing their freedom and adherence to their game plan. The teams will clash again in the second ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Thursday.
