BIRMINGHAM, England: England’s pace attack produced a devastating display at Edgbaston on Wednesday, with Josh Tongue, Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer tearing through Pakistan’s batting line-up to bowl the visitors out for a below-par 133 on the opening day of the third Test.
Pakistan, who resumed their first innings after lunch at 100 for seven, could add only 33 runs before losing their remaining three wickets in 33.5 overs. England’s disciplined seam attack maintained relentless pressure throughout the afternoon, leaving Pakistan with a daunting task on a bowler-friendly surface.

Ollie Robinson immediately restored England’s momentum after the interval, striking with only his third delivery to dismiss Razaullah, who scored 11 from 11 balls with two fours.
Saud Shakeel, who had held Pakistan’s innings together with a determined knock, managed only a brief six-run partnership with Mohammad Abbas before Josh Tongue cleaned him up.
Saud remained Pakistan’s leading scorer, making a fighting 43 off 47 balls, including seven boundaries.
Abbas offered some resistance at the lower order, frustrating England’s bowlers with a 21 off 36 deliveries before Jofra Archer ended his stay at the crease.
Archer finished with an impressive three wickets for 25 runs from 7.5 overs, while Tongue was England’s leading wicket-taker with four for 42 in 10 overs. Robinson claimed three wickets to complete a dominant performance by England’s pace trio.

Pakistan collapse after early blows
Pakistan were put into bat first but immediately found themselves under severe pressure from England’s fast bowlers.
Robinson delivered the first blow in the third over when he trapped returning opener Saim Ayub lbw for a 10-ball duck.
Archer then struck in his second spell, removing Pakistan’s other opener, Azan Awais, for nine off 20 balls. The batter hit two boundaries before departing, leaving Pakistan struggling at 14 for two after 5.5 overs.
Robinson returned to dismiss Abdullah Shafique for three from 16 deliveries before Archer struck again in the following over, removing former captain Shan Masood for five off seven balls.
Pakistan had slumped to 28 for four, with England’s pace attack firmly in control.
Tongue joins the destruction
The pressure intensified when Josh Tongue dismissed Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the 15th over.
Babar managed only seven from 18 deliveries, hitting a single boundary before being bowled by Tongue as Pakistan slipped to 48 for five.

Debutant wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori opened his Test account with a boundary against Tongue but could not stay for long.
Tongue dismissed Ghori for four off five balls to claim his second wicket of the innings.
Another debutant, Imran Randhawa, also fell to Tongue shortly afterwards, giving the England seamer his third wicket and leaving Pakistan in deep trouble at 84 for seven after 20.4 overs.
Saud Shakeel then attempted to rebuild the innings with the lower order, but Pakistan ultimately managed only 133 before being bowled out.
England’s pace trio therefore accounted for all 10 Pakistan wickets, underlining the dominance of the hosts’ seam attack on the opening day at Edgbaston.
