DUBAI: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) on Monday announced to extend its humanitarian relief project in Gaza to help the Palestinian people during the holy month of Ramadan.

The ERC has allocated $817,000 for purchasing of food supplies for the Iftar project, including wheat, rice, beans, sugar, beans, among others, from Egypt. The food supplies would help to sustain 28 community kitchens and 10 bakeries in Gaza.

A convoy of 16 trucks, carrying 336 tonnes of food, has left Cairo for Al Arish, to enter into war-hit Gaza.

ERC Secretary-General Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri said that the aid comes within the framework of the keenness of the UAE’s leadership to stand with the people of Palestine in Gaza through this difficult time.

Meanwhile, the ERC teams are in the process of loading the third cargo vessel with humanitarian aid and food parcels. The ship will transport 4,500 tonnes of food, 3,000 tents, and Eid clothing.

Earlier, the UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan had met with CEO of US charity World Central Kitchen, Erin Gore, to discuss enhanced partnership to improve aid delivery to Gaza.

On Saturday 98 Palestinians from Gaza who needed extreme medical care for severe injuries, burns, and cancer, were transported to Abu Dhabi by air, accompanied by 58 family members.
