ECP to Display Preliminary Lists of Candidates Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will release the initial lists of candidates on Thursday (tomorrow) for the upcoming general elections 2024, whereas the candidates could withdraw their nomination papers by Friday, January 12.

As per the election schedule and related details issued by the ECP, January 10 (today) is the last day to dispose of appeals filed against any acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers of the candidates for the general elections by Appellate Tribunals. After completion of the relevant requirements, the ECP will publish the revised list of candidates on Friday.

In addition, as per schedule, the electoral symbols would be allotted to the parties and candidates on January 13 (Saturday), whereas polling for general elections would be held on February 8, 2024.

Symbols for Political Parties, Candidates

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the ECP sent a list of electoral symbols of 145 political parties to the returning officers (ROs). However, a number of political parties, including PTI, were not included in the list of electoral symbols.

Till Wednesday, major political parties receiving symbols included PPPP (arrow), PML-N (tiger), PTI-Nazriyati (batsman), PTI-Parliamentarians (turban), IPP (eagle), MQM-P (kite), JUI-F (book), BNP-Mengal (axe), Jamaat-i-Islami (scale) and Pakistan Muslim League (tractor).

The independent candidates would get symbols other than those assigned to political parties. The ECP has sent separate election symbols for independent candidates to the relevant ROs.
