ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a final show-cause notice to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for not holding intra-party elections as was promised.
Sikandar Sultan Raja Chief Election Commissioner led the three-member ECP bench which heard its earlier notices issued to PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and Ahsan Iqbal.
ECP Chief’s stance
Sultan Raja remarked how the party that could not hold its own elections could undertake a mammoth exercise of general elections. PML-N’s lawyer Arshad Jadoon told the Election Commission that the party could not hold elections despite assuring the Commission that the vote could take place on December 30.
He told the ECP bench that the PML-N could not hold party elections on January 31 and Ahsan Iqbal already filed the application in the Election commission of Pakistan in this regard. “Please, give us last chance,” PML-N lawyer begged the election commission.
Sultan Raja ordered to issue another show-cause notice for seven days to the party, declaring this has been the final notice. Raja warned now they could issue notice for cancellation of the election symbol. He said that you are making excuses; sometimes it’s coronavirus or other excuses.
