VIENTIANE: The fight against the spread of the dengue virus in Laos continues as the number of dengue fever cases record a surge.
According to a report released by the Health Ministry’s Center of Information and Education for Health Wednesday, dengue cases in Laos have risen to 6,488, with single death since January.
With 1,396, Oudomxay province recorded the most dengue cases, followed by Khammuan province with 1,016 cases and Xayaboury province with 552.
The Lao Ministry of Health recommends citizens exercise caution at all times, particularly during rainy seasons when the presence of stagnant water in the environment increases the quantity of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. To assist in stopping the spread of dengue, Lao health authorities continue to urge individuals to remove potential mosquito breeding areas near their homes and places of employment. These long-term prevention-oriented measures are crucial to the fight against the illness.
Communities, in particular, should maintain a clean environment and take all reasonable measures to eliminate mosquitoes and their larvae, ensuring no stagnant water is allowed to accumulate. One of the key tactics authorities use to stop the spread of dengue is to increase public awareness of this problem. Schools, hospitals, factories, hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, and businesses are urged to organize cleaning events to eliminate standing water and prevent mosquito breeding. The survey claims that village leaders, organizations, charitable organizations, and monks are also crucial in the fight against dengue illness.
The health ministry advises anyone suffering from a high fever, a headache, or muscle pain to seek medical counsel and treatment at a hospital. In recent years, Laos has largely prevented dengue-related mortality through better dengue diagnosis and care in hospitals and clinics. The Lao Ministry of Health has committed to continuing to build the skills of medical professionals to enhance healthcare offerings in the vital fight against dengue fever. – Xinhua/APP
