Death Toll Raises Above 20,000 in Turkey-Syria Quake: Officials

ANKARA: Over 20,000 people have died following Monday’s quake, which has shocked southern parts of Turkey and northern areas of Syria. Turkey’s disaster and emergency management officials said the death toll in the country is now 17,134. However, in Syria, at least 3,162 people have died after the earthquake.

Turkish Minister for Health said that 17406 people have died and more than 71,800 wounded in the quake-hit parts of Turkey, TRT reported.

Earlier, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan visited the quake-hit area of Kahramanmaras on Wednesday. The President said there had been issues with airport and road access to the quake-hit parts of the country, but “they are better today.”
