ISLAMABAD: A new investigation has uncovered the alarming impact of substandard Indian medicines on children’s lives in various countries, including Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and several African nations since 2022.
The World Health Organization (WHO) had already issued a global alert regarding this issue in December of last year. However, despite the warning, deaths have tragically persisted in countries such as Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Gambia, Liberia, and Nigeria.
Unsafe Practices by Indian Pharmaceutical Companies
The investigation further revealed that Indian pharmaceutical companies had been employing hazardous industrial-grade ingredients in the production of these medicines. Shockingly, they also resorted to paying a bribe of $60,000 to conceal their abhorrent crimes. The affected medications encompassed cough syrup, paracetamol syrup, and eye drops. The eye drops, in particular, caused an epidemic in America in February of this year.
The outrage against the distribution of fake medicines has prompted numerous countries to reconsider importing other products from India, as they fear a similar compromise in quality.
