DAMASCUS: Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad said on Thursday that a Moscow-brokered reconciliation with Ankara should aim for the end of “occupation” by Turkiye of parts of Syria.

According to Arab news, Turkiye became a sworn enemy of Syria when it began supporting rebel efforts to topple Assad’s government at the start of the civil war twelve years ago.

But in late December the defense ministers of Syria and Turkiye held landmark talks in Russia, the first such talks since 2011.

After the defense ministers’ meeting, Turkiye’s Foreign Minister said he and his Russian and Syrian counterparts would meet. He confirmed on Thursday that the meeting will be in Moscow.

The Foreign Minister told the reporters that no date has yet been finalized but they will hold a meeting soon.
