ISLAMABAD: One police official was martyred and another injured on Saturday after a patrolling mobile van came under a grenade attack in the Dogar Umerzai area in Bannu district of Khyber-Pkakhtunkhwa province.
Police mobile van comes under attack
The police came under attack during a raid on a hideout where an alleged terrorist was hiding, police said.
Bannu Township Police Station House Officer (SHO) Gul Muhammad told World Echo that the incident occurred at 12 pm on Saturday when the holed up terrorist opened fire and hurled a hand grenade at the police mobile van.
He said that a police official was martyred and another sustained serious injury. The injured cop was rushed to the nearby hospital.
SHO Gull Muhammad said that the police cordoned off the area and a search operation has been launched to hunt the terrorist, who was still holed up in the house.
He said that head constable Pasham Khan, who had traced the militant in the house, sustained a bullet fired by the terrorist during the encounter.
According to local journalist Hidayatullah, security men have engaged the militant.
Security situation in Bannu
Bannu Division has experienced a number of terrorist incidents in the last couple of weeks. Security forces are on the alert to respond to saboteur activities.
Two weeks ago, a major operation against militants was conducted and at least 25 militants were killed after they seized the counter-terrorism department police station in Bannu.
