CAIRO: Egyptian media reported that CIA Director William Burns, Mossad Chief David Barnea, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani have met with Egyptian officials in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss a potential truce in Gaza, AFP reported citing Egyptian media.

The meeting was reported by Al-Qahera News, which has ties to Egyptian intelligence. It comes amid escalating international pressure for a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, where over 28,000 have been killed as reported by health officials.

Egypt and Qatar, with backing from the United States, have been actively mediating between the conflicting parties. Negotiations have intensified following a proposal drafted with Israeli negotiators in Paris last month, which has undergone revisions amidst ongoing discussions.

Gaza Truce Talks in Cairo

A Hamas official, speaking anonymously to AFP, stated that the organization and other factions are anticipating the outcomes of the Cairo meetings, expressing openness to dialogue on initiatives aimed at halting aggression and hostilities.

The urgency for a ceasefire has been underscored by warnings from both the United States and the United Nations, cautioning against an Israeli ground offensive into Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, where a significant population is trapped.

Efforts to broker a truce continue amidst mounting humanitarian concerns and calls for de-escalation in the volatile region.
