ISLAMABAD: Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), is set to arrive in Islamabad on Sunday for his first official visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Office said.

During his visit, Liu is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s leadership and co-chair a high-level event with Dar on November 2, according to a Foreign Office statement issued on Sunday.

“The visit forms part of the ongoing high-level and party-to-party exchanges between Pakistan and China, reflecting the two countries’ shared commitment to further strengthening their All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” the statement said.

The two countries have maintained close diplomatic and strategic ties, with regular exchanges between their political leadership and ruling party officials forming an important part of their bilateral relationship.

The IDCPC is an agency directly under the CPC Central Committee. It is responsible for managing party-to-party relations, conducting foreign exchanges with political parties and organisations around the world, and gathering political insights to support China’s foreign policy.

China has also committed more than $65 billion in investments in road networks, infrastructure, and development projects in the country Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). In addition, several Chinese private-sector manufacturers have entered into joint ventures with Pakistani partners.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has also resumed direct flight operations between Pakistan and China, reconnecting Islamabad and Beijing after the first flight operated on October 30.

The resumption restores direct air connectivity between the two countries and is expected to facilitate travel for passengers while strengthening aviation links between Islamabad and Beijing.

The restored service is expected to provide greater convenience for business travellers, tourists, students and others travelling between the two countries, while supporting stronger people-to-people contacts and bilateral exchanges.
