ISLAMABAD: Chinese companies have expressed strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s growing electric vehicle (EV) sector, including EV assembly, battery manufacturing and advanced energy storage technologies.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan held a series of business-to-business meetings with leading Chinese and Pakistani companies aimed at boosting industrial cooperation, investment and technology transfer, according to the Ministry of Industries and Production.

During the meetings, Khan said the government was committed to transforming memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements into practical implementation under the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He said the government was working actively to ensure effective follow-up and execution of investment agreements.

According to the ministry, Chinese investors showed particular interest in establishing EV assembly plants and eventually expanding into local manufacturing of EV batteries and advanced lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery technologies in Pakistan.

Khan said the government was finalising an EV Battery Policy, which would soon be introduced to facilitate investment, local manufacturing and technological advancement in the sector.

He assured investors of complete government support and follow-up on joint ventures and agreements, emphasising efforts to create a business-friendly environment for foreign investors.

The ministry said increased Chinese investment in Pakistan’s EV and battery industries would strengthen local manufacturing capabilities, support modern industrial technologies and generate new employment opportunities.

Khan added that Pakistan-China industrial cooperation was entering a new phase of economic partnership focused on advanced manufacturing and sustainable technologies.
