Chinese FM Wang Yi to Visit Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia

SINGAPORE: China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to visit Singapore, Cambodia, and Malaysia this week, officials in Beijing said on Wednesday.

Purpose of the visits to strengthen mutual ties with the important countries in the region, the officials said.

The foreign minister Wang Yi would pay his visit to Singapore from 10 t0 11 August at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan.

He would meet with the the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, according to media reports.

Wang Yi who took his charge as foreign minister for the second term last month, retaking the role he held between 2018 and 2022, after the unexplained disappearance of his predecessor Qin Gang.

According to the Chinese foreign ministry via a statement Yi would  travel to the three countries from Thursday to Sunda, adding that China hoped to strengthen strategic communication with the three Southeast Asian nations through this visit.
