Ishaq Dar lauded China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate dialogue and diplomacy between Iran and the United States.
He also acknowledged China’s important contributions to the restoration of regional peace and stability, especially President Xi Jinping’s Four-Point Proposal and the Pakistan-China Five-Point Initiative.
Both leaders emphasised the importance of implementing the understandings reached between the parties and sustaining dialogue to ensure the peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues. They also highlighted the significance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, noting its critical role in global economic stability, energy security, and international trade.
The two sides reviewed the outcomes of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent successful visit to China and agreed to maintain strong momentum in implementing the decisions and agreements reached during the trip.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar underscored the importance of advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and further deepening bilateral economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close communication and continuing consultations on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
US and Iranian officials announced on Sunday that they had agreed on a framework aimed at ending hostilities, lifting the US blockade on Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
US President Donald Trump declared on his Truth Social platform that a deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been completed, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced earlier on Monday that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran had been reached following intensive diplomatic efforts in which Pakistan played a mediating role.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.
Pakistan has consistently supported diplomatic efforts during the period of tensions between the United States and Iran and has remained committed to peaceful solutions to international disputes.
