Footage reveals a 19-year-old refugee was shot dead at the Bulgaria-Turkey border

Bulgaria has already been accused of shooting a refugee after a new video showed a young Syrian being shot dead on the Turkish border.

This is the first footage of an asylum seeker refugee shot dead on EU borders. It opened a joint investigation by Sky News, Lighthouse News, The Times, and others.

Footage taken on October 3 near the Bulgarian-Turkish border fence showed Abdullah El Rustum, 19, falling to the ground after a bullet went through his arm and into his chest.

Reports said he was shot dead by Bulgarian security border officials when they caught him and his group illegally entering the country and turned them over to Turkey.

“The green car means there are two Bulgarian workers on board. He came towards us and they started shooting in the air. They fired two shots in the air and after that they started shooting at us on the ground,” he said. “We didn’t panic and kept saying it’s not acceptable. ‘Why did you do that?’ After that, they beat me by shooting me directly.”

He added: “The way he shot me was exactly what he meant to kill me.”
Bulgaria is also a part of the European Union and hopes to become a member of the Schengen area, allowing people to move across borders. The city is often used as a gateway to other European countries.
