ISLAMABAD: According to a Greek defence ministry source, Greek warplanes were scrambled Sunday to escort a Ryanair flight with as many as 190 people on board the passenger plane after a bomb alert was reported to concerned authorities. The flight originated from Poland’s Katowice and its destination was Greece’s capital Athens.
Hungarian, Greek warplanes escorted the flight en route to Athens
According to the source, as quoted by AFP, two F-16s belonging to Greece escorted the passenger plane after it entered the country’s airspace from North Macedonia.
Before entering Greece, the Ryanair jet was being escorted by Hungary’s warplanes.
Shortly before 1600 GMT the passenger jet landed at an isolated location within the Athens International Airport.
The source of the bomb claim was not immediately clear.
