REHOBOTH BEACH, United States: Kamala Harris and US President Joe Biden will next week make their first joint campaign tour since Biden’s shock decision to drop out of the 2024 White House race against Donald Trump.

Seeking to shine his legacy in his last days in office and support the new Democratic ticket, President Biden will appear alongside Kamala Harris at an event in the state of Maryland near Washington on Thursday.

They would discuss the progress they are making to lower costs for the people America”, the White House said on Friday, saying that further information about the event would be released later. As per media reports, inflation remains a weak spot for Democrats ahead of November’s polls. Harris has also fired up the Democratic Party since President Biden announced he was stepping aside after a disastrous debate against Donald Trump that highlighted concerns regarding his age and mental health.

The first female, Black and South Asian vice president in the history of the United States has held a series of packed rallies, pulled in record fundraising and wiped out Republican ex-president Trump’s poll lead. In contrast President Biden has kept a low profile with few public events, in what has become a lame duck presidency with about six months still until his successor assumes charge in January.

President Biden, who is presently spending a long weekend at his Delaware beach house, had not been likely to make any major political appearances in support of Kamala Harris until the Democratic National Convention starting on August 19 in Chicago.  In his first interaction with the media since dropping out of the election, President Biden told CBS that he was “not confident at all” of a peaceful transfer of power if Donald Trump loses a second time.

One other priority for President Biden’s remaining days in office is to push for a truce to end the war between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip– an issue that is still divisive for Democrats.
