The UN Security Council is likely to vote on Friday on a Palestinian plea for full UN membership, a move that Washington – Israel’s staunchest ally – is likely to block.

More than 33,843 Palestinian people have been killed mostly women and children and over 76,575 injured in Israeli strikes on Gaza since Oct 7. Earlier, the United Nations’ women’s rights organization said that over 10,000 women have been killed in Gaza so far and described Israel’s war on Gaza also a ‘war on women’.  The reports stated that 6,000 mothers have been killed in brutal Israel offense against the Gaza Strip since October 7. It added that the mothers have left behind more than 19,000 orphaned kids.  The report said that Palestinian women who have survived the Israeli attacks and military ground operations are now widowed, facing starvation and displaced.

The recent developments take place in the region as Iran launched a strike on Israel in retaliation for an attack on its embassy building in Damascus, Syria on April 1 attributed to Israel. On Tuesday, Iran and Israel exchanged threats following Tehran’s first direct strike on its arch-rival.
