ISLAMABAD: Around 832,339 Pakistanis left the country in 2022 seeking work in foreign countries.
According to the statistics of the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment during the year 2022 (December), 832,339 Pakistanis proceeded abroad for the purpose of employment. This was the second-highest number of migration since 2015, when 946,571 Pakistanis proceeded abroad.
From 2021 to 2022, the number of Pakistanis leaving the country has increased by almost 200 per cent.
Employment seekers
Of the 832,339 people who migrated abroad, 90,000 were skilled workers, including doctors, engineers, information technology specialists, accountants, agriculturists, managers, and others.
Of these, 799,507 people went to the Middle East, including 514,909 to Saudi Arabia, 128,477 to the United Arab Emirates, 82,380 to Oman, 57,999 to Qatar, 13,653 to Bahrain and 2,089 chose Kuwait.
The highest number of 460,302 people, who went abroad, were from Punjab province, followed by 225,272c from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
