RIYADH:  Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Fahmy, in a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, strongly condemned Houthi attacks against the Kingdom’s territory.

During the call, Fahmy affirmed that the security of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of Arab national security, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the region, ways to enhance the work of the Arab League, and efforts to activate its role in addressing various regional challenges.

Coalition intercepts, destroys Houthi ballistic missiles

Earlier, the official spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, said that three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh and Khamis Mushait were intercepted and destroyed.

“A ballistic missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards Khamis Mushait was intercepted and destroyed,” Coalition spokesperson Major General Al-Maliki said in a post on X.

In another post, Al-Maliki said, “We intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards Riyadh.”

In a statement, the Coalition spokesperson reiterated that the brutal attacks by the Houthis on civilians and civilian objects in Saudi Arabia will not go unpunished.

Al-Maliki specifically mentioned the most recent attacks targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport.

According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh were targeted in two separate attacks on October 6 and 7, 2026, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

At Abha International Airport, the blatant attack resulted in two fatalities, a Moroccan and an Algerian female resident, as well as 28 injuries ranging from minor to serious among Saudi citizens, a Bangladeshi resident, and a Filipino resident, GACA stated.

At King Khalid International Airport, the attack resulted in one fatality, a resident of Sudanese nationality, as well as eight injuries ranging from minor to critical among five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents, and a Pakistani resident, according to GACA.

Highly dangerous escalation

The Arab League, in a separate statement, said that targeting civil aviation facilities and endangering the lives of passengers and workers constitutes a highly dangerous escalation, a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty, and a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter.

It warned of the danger of the continued attacks, their widening scope, and the repeated targeting of civilian and vital facilities.

The Arab League reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom and support for Saudi Arabia in confronting any attacks targeting its security, stability and sovereignty, as well as the safety of its citizens and residents. It stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security is an integral part of Arab national security.

The Arab League also extended its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery, while calling for an immediate halt to the attacks and urging restraint to prevent further escalation that could threaten regional security and stability. fe
