In an interview with a local television, Abdelmadjid Tebboune said, “A military intervention could burn the entire region and his country will not use force with its neighbours,”. The news came as pressure on the leaders of a military coup in the African country mounted Saturday on the eve of African bloc’s deadline for the military to surrender power or face possible military intervention.

Ex-colonial power Paris, with which the coup leader broke military relations shortly after assuming power, said it would “decisively” back whatever course of action the African bloc took after the end of the Sunday deadline.

Military heads from the group said they had made agreement on a plan for a possible armed intervention to reply to the crisis.

The block commissioner Abdel-Fatau Musah said that all the elements that would go into any ultimate involvement have been worked out.

Earlier, Algeria and the European Union have called for unifying diplomatic and political pressures to restore the “constitutional order” in Niger. The EU Foreign Policy Chief and Algeria FM discussed the recent situation in the African country during a phone call, Algerian Foreign Ministry said.
