ISLAMABAD: India’s Air India has announced the cancellation of several international and domestic flights on June 20 due to what it described as “enhanced maintenance and operational reasons”.
“We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. Our colleagues on ground are making alternative arrangements for them to fly to their respective destinations at the earliest,” Indian media cited the airline as saying.
The CNBC reported that Air India has indicated that there were possibilities of further disruptions, citing “continuing enhanced checks on our aircraft, airspace restrictions and inclement weather.”
Plane crash
The latest development comes following the Ahmedabad plane crash that claimed over 250 lives last week.
The Hindu reported that affected flights include services between Dubai, Chennai, Delhi, Melbourne, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
Earlier on Thursday Air India said it will reduce flights on various international routes per week and temporarily suspend operations on three routes from June 21 to July 15, 2025.
On June 17, Hindustan Times that an IndiGo flight en route from Kochi to Delhi made an emergency landing in Nagpur on Tuesday morning following a bomb threat.
In another incident, passengers onboard a Mumbai-bound Air India flight were forced to deplane on Tuesday after the aircraft faced a technical snag in one of its engines, according to Indian media.
An Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai developed a technical snag in one of its engines, forcing passengers to deplane during a scheduled stop at Kolkata airport early Tuesday, Hindustan Times reported.
