ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Aftab Sultan tendered his resignation on Monday, citing personal reasons.

Sultan was being pressurised by the government and some other institutions for last few months to register cases against certain people and arrest them, Geo TV reported citing sources.

Sultan, who belonged to the Police Service of Pakistan, was appointed the head of the anti-graft watchdog in July last year by the coalition government of Pakistan Democratic Movement.

Sultan previously served two govts as DG IB

Sultan had previously served as the Director General of Intelligence Bureau (IB), a position he retained during two governments, of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and under four prime ministers — Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

He graduated in law from Punjab University, and later did an LLM from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in jurisprudence/legal studies from the University of Edinburgh.
