Afghanistan’s Trade Minister Holds Talks With Uzbekistan Delegation

KABUL: Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, held talks with a visiting Uzbek delegation led by Deputy Trade Minister Nazem Jan Khalmuradov. The meeting focused on exploring investment opportunities and establishing transit facilities to enhance trade connections among Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan.

The Afghan Ministry of Industry and Commerce released a statement detailing the productive discussions that took place in Kabul between Minister Azizi and the Uzbek delegation. Among the key topics addressed were strategies for bolstering investment activities within Afghanistan, the facilitation of transit operations between the three countries, namely Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, and the potential to extend customs operations to a 24-hour cycle. The meeting also touched upon the importance of finalizing trade agreements to enhance economic cooperation.

Simultaneously, the Afghan Ministry of Agriculture shared insights into the interactions between members of the Uzbek delegation and Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock.

Uzbekistan Delegation Holds Extensive Talks

The delegation, which included Uzbekistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Irrigation, and the country’s Ambassador, engaged in substantive discussions centered around strengthening bilateral relations in agriculture, irrigation, and livestock sectors.

In addition to these interactions, the visiting Uzbek delegation held meetings with other Afghan officials, including the Acting Minister of Transport and Aviation. Notably, the delegation also visited the Salang highway, a critical transport route facilitating the movement of goods between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

The two-day visit of the Uzbek delegation, which commenced on Saturday, showcased a shared commitment between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan to explore avenues for collaboration, enhance economic ties, and create favorable conditions for mutual growth and development.
