KABUL, Afghanistan: The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) said it ambushed a group of foreign militants supporting the Taliban regime in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, killing at least two and wounding three others.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the AFF said the attack took place on Friday evening along the road to Zebak district in Badakhshan.
The resistance group said those targeted were foreign militants supporting the Taliban regime who were travelling to join operations against AFF fighters in Zebak. The group claimed the men did not speak the local language but did not identify their nationalities.

Resistance intensifies in Zebak
The AFF said the presence of foreign militants alongside Taliban regime forces demonstrated that Afghanistan under Taliban rule had become “a safe haven and breeding ground” for the revival and expansion of international terrorism.
Local sources in Badakhshan, cited by Afghanistan International, had earlier confirmed clashes between Taliban regime forces and opposition fighters in Zebak district. A video obtained by Afghanistan International showed a helicopter flying over the area.

According to the sources, opposition fighters ambushed a Taliban regime convoy in Sanglich village on Friday night as it was moving towards the front line, causing casualties. The sources did not provide casualty figures.
Residents in Zebak later told Afghanistan International that sporadic clashes between Taliban regime forces and the Afghanistan Freedom Front were continuing. They said the Taliban regime had deployed a large number of fighters to the district.

A day earlier, informed sources had told the broadcaster that the Taliban was preparing a military operation against opposition groups in Badakhshan.
NRF claims attack in Herat
Meanwhile, the National Resistance Front (NRF) said it killed at least two Taliban regime members in an attack on one of the group’s patrol vehicles in Herat province.
The NRF said in a statement that the attack took place near the Pashdan Dam at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.
According to the resistance group, those killed were officers from the First Brigade of the Taliban regime’s Al-Farooq Army Corps. It added that none of its fighters was injured during the operation.
Local sources in Herat had earlier told Afghanistan International they heard intermittent gunfire in the Pashdan Dam area on Thursday night.
The NRF said it had also attacked a Taliban checkpoint in Badakhshan’s Kuran wa Munjan district on 27 July, as armed groups opposing the Taliban have stepped up attacks in several parts of Afghanistan in recent weeks.
Taliban checkpoint targeted in Faizabad
In another incident, local sources said a Taliban regime checkpoint opposite Badakhshan University in Faizabad came under rocket attack on Wednesday night.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the Taliban regime has not commented on either the reported strike or the recent arrests in Badakhshan.
The latest incidents come after the newly formed Sepah-e Mihan Front seized control of Yaftal district centre on 17 July.
The group disarmed Taliban personnel, took control of the district administration building and raised its flag before withdrawing from the area several hours later.
