ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed two terrorists, including an Afghan national, during an intelligence-based operation in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on June 4, security sources said on Thursday.
The killed Afghan terrorist was found carrying an Afghan identity card, foreign currency, sophisticated weapons, and a suicide vest.
The terrorist was identified as Umar Bilal, a resident of Afghanistan’s Khost province. Security officials said the recovery of the documents and equipment further highlights the involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist activities targeting Pakistan.
The operation was conducted as part of Pakistan’s security forces’ ongoing counter-terrorism efforts across the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have intensified actions against terrorist networks.
The development comes a day after Pakistan carried out precise and calibrated strikes along the Afghanistan border, targeting terrorist hideouts and safe havens used by terrorists involved in recent attacks inside Pakistan.
According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, at least 26 terrorists were killed in the strikes. He said the action was undertaken in response to a series of terrorist attacks, including the assault on a Federal Constabulary post in Musa Dara on June 9, a vehicle-borne suicide attack on a military post in North Waziristan on June 2, and an attack on a police station in Bannu on May 9.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since 2021 following the return of the Afghan Taliban to power in Afghanistan.
In response, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, targeting terrorist infrastructure and killing scores of Afghan Taliban-linked operatives and allied terrorists while injuring hundreds more.
Tensions between the two neighbouring countries have remained strained. In October 2025, border clashes erupted after Afghan Taliban forces and affiliated terrorists allegedly launched attacks on Pakistani border posts.
