LOS ANGELES: Riley Keough, the granddaughter of music legend Elvis Presley, has spoken out about the joy of motherhood and the happiness she feels having a “half-Australian baby”.

Keough, who is married to Australian filmmaker Ben Smith-Petersen, recently gave birth to their first child.

In an interview with Vogue, the Daisy Jones & the Six star shared details about her whirlwind romance with Smith-Petersen, which began on a trip to Sydney while filming the hit movie Mad Max: Fury Road. “I have a half-Australian baby,” Keough exclaimed with joy to the outlet.

Keough and Smith-Petersen had been eager to start a family, with the War Pony director revealing her desire for children in a previous interview.

The news of their daughter’s birth broke earlier this year when Smith-Petersen read out Keough’s eulogy during her mother, Lisa Marie Presley’s funeral service. “It’s been a really crazy year,” Keough reflected. “A lot has happened.”

Riley Keough expresses gratitude for new role as a mother

Despite the difficult year, Keough expressed gratitude for her new role as a mother. “It’s wonderful,” she said. “Every day is a new adventure, and it’s incredible. I feel really grateful to be able to have this experience.”

Reflecting on her own childhood, Keough shared that she had always wanted to act but felt a little shy about vocalising her ambitions in a family full of actors. In an early school project, Keough even wrote, “I want to be a mom.”

Keough’s joy at motherhood is clear, and her pride in her “half-Australian baby” shines through.
