Russian, North Korean Defense Ministers Resolve to Strengthen Cooperation

MOSCOW: The defense ministers of Russia and North Korea met in Pyongyang on Wednesday, where they pledged to develop bilateral ties and strengthen cooperation between their defense departments.

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Pyongyang, a capital of a friendly state, and emphasized the opportunity to learn about the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)’s culture, traditions, and sights. The meeting took place as part of the celebrations dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Korean people in the Patriotic Liberation War.

Historical Cooperation Between Russia and North Korea

During the talks, Shoygu highlighted the historical cooperation between the two countries, stating that the visits of warships, high-ranking representatives, and exchanges of delegations at the working level have contributed to the preservation of peace and stability on the Korean peninsula. He underscored the importance of the DPRK as an essential partner of Russia, with both countries connected by a shared border and a rich history of cooperation.

The meeting between the defense ministers aimed to further strengthen bilateral ties and foster collaboration in various defense-related areas amid regional tensions and US influence.
