ISLAMABAD: Muslims across the country are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha with religious zeal and fervor today to commemorate the great sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismael (AS).

One of the essential aspects of the festival involves sacrifice (slaughtering) of a healthy animal, usually a goat, sheep, or cow, in line with the Islamic injunctions.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” holds immense cultural and religious significance amongst Muslims.

The occasion commemorates the willingness of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son, Hazrat Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command. The event serves as a reminder of devotion, faith and the importance of sacrifice in Islam.

The dawn broke with special prayers in mosques for well-being of Ummah and prosperity, progress and security of the country.

The day began with the congregational prayers held in mosques, parks, open places and Eidgahs in all cities, towns and villages where people listened to sermons emphasizing the spirit of sacrifice and devotion. Ulema, in their Eid sermons, highlighted the significance of the philosophy of great sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismail (AS).

Following the prayers, people dressed in their finest attire exchanged warm greetings, spreading joy and happiness.

The sacrificial ritual took place after the prayers, with each family performing the sacrifice according to Islamic traditions. The meat from the sacrificed animal is then divided into three equal parts, with one portion shared among family and friends, one given to the needy, and the final portion kept for personal consumption.

Eid-ul-Azha is a time for families to come together, strengthen bonds, and extend kindness to those less privileged. The festive atmosphere, delicious feasts, and acts of charity make the Eid a cherished and joyous occasion for all the nation.

Civic authorities have made special arrangements for disposal of offals and other solid waste during the Eid days.
