ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports in the rupee term witnessed a surge of 22.13% during the past seven months of the current financial year 2022-23 as compared to the same period of last year, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data revealed on Thursday.
Exports from July 2022 to May 2023 were registered at 6,187,511 million rupees as against 5,066,143 million rupees during the same period of last year, reflecting an increase of 22.13%, according to PBS provisional data.
On a year-on-year basis (YoY), Pakistan’s exports during January 2023 surged to 628,037 million rupees as against 512,962 million rupees during May 2022, registering growth of 22.43%.
On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the exports surged by 3.15% when compared to the exports of 608,863 million rupees in April 2023.
Main products of exports during May 2023 were knitwear (94,969 million rupees), ready-made garments (76,422 million rupees), bed wear (57,521 million rupees), cotton cloth (49,865 million rupees), rice other than basmati (32,197 million rupees), cotton yarn (28,650 million rupees), towels (24,975 million rupees), rice basmati (19,074 million rupees), fish and fish preparations (14,439 million rupees) and made-up articles excluding towels and bedwear (14,367 million rupees).
Pakistan’s imports
On the other side, imports from July 2022 to May 2023 were registered at 12,327,431 million rupees as against 12,667,725 million rupees during the same period of last year, showing a drop of 2.69%.
In May 2023, imports into Pakistan amounted to 1,235,475 million rupees as against 854,112 million rupees in April, 2023 and 1,321,609 million rupees during May, last year, showing an increase of 44.65% over April, 2023 but a drop of 6.52% over May, 2022.
