Saudi Arabia, Qatar Sign MoU to Strengthen Cultural Cooperation

RIYADH: The Minister of Culture of Saudi Arabia, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, met with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, on Monday in Doha and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in various cultural fields.

The meeting took place during Prince Badr’s official visit to attend the opening of the Doha International Book Fair, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

The MoU encompasses the establishment of joint training programs, workshops, and seminars in areas such as heritage, architecture and design, museums, visual arts, theater and performing arts, literature, publishing and translation, fashion, culinary arts, and films. The agreement also includes provisions for hosting exhibitions, lending artworks and artifacts, participating in festivals, and undertaking joint strategic projects.

Collaboration Between Saudi Arabia and Qatar

Furthermore, the two parties will collaborate on developing art residencies between governmental and private entities in both countries. They will also exchange experiences in preserving heritage and implementing agreements of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Expressing gratitude for the invitation as the guest of honor at the book fair, Prince Badr emphasized the depth of the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan, Saudi Ambassador to Qatar, Rakan bin Ibrahim Al-Touq, Assistant Minister of Culture, and Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Kanaan, undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture for International Cultural Relations.

This agreement and official visit reflect the ongoing efforts of both Saudi Arabia and Qatar to strengthen cooperation across various domains. It also aligns with the strategic goals of the Saudi Ministry of Culture to promote international cultural exchange, in line with Vision 2030.
