KARACHI: Nimra Kazmi, the teenage girl who was in the media spotlight in April last year when she mysteriously disappeared from Karachi and later claimed having married the love of her life, has reportedly filed a petition in the port city’s local court for khula (dissolution of marriage) from her husband, Muhammad Najeeb Shahrukh.
It is worth mentioning that her parents had filed a plea in court, seeking directives for the police to investigate her disappearance. They claimed their daughter was underage, and later, police recovered Nimra from Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab.
After her recovery, Nimra said: “I went to Taunsa Sharif to meet Shahrukh on my own and was not kidnapped. We got married there the next day I left my home.”
The local court in June 2023 asked Nimra if she could decide whom she wanted to live with. After one year of marriage, Nimra is again in the news as she submitted a plea to sessions judge East seeking a divorce.
In her plea, Kazmi charged her husband with abuse and pleaded with the judge to rule against the defendant. She requested that Khula be used to break the marriage rather than the dower payment of Rs. 5,000, which is “still unpaid.”
Kazmi believed that she has “developed a grave hatred in her heart and mind towards her husband and is unwilling to rejoin him.
According to the petition submitted by her attorney, “She has fully made up her mind to end the hateful relation with her husband even though Khula and is ready to relinquish her dower amount, which is still unpaid.” The young woman from Karachi claimed that her husband beat her and forced her to engage in illicit relationships with strangers. She has requested to live with her parents.
