TASHKENT: The 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships were held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from April 30 to 14 May 2023 in which athletes from all five continents took part and competed for medals in 13 weight categories.
All 13 newly-crowned boxers were honoured on the stage of IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Tashkent. Team of Uzbekistan topped the medal table with 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. Second place went to Kazakhstan with 4 gold and 1 silver, and Russia finished third with 2 gold and 4 bronze medals.
Uzbekistan received the Best Team award. The Best Boxer was declared Hasanboy Dusmatov from Uzbekistan. The best referee and judge remained from Afghanistan Tamim Sultani.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Humo Arena sports complex in Tashkent and watched the World Boxing Championships.
The winners were awarded 200,000 US dollars each, while silver medallists received 100,000 US dollars and each bronze medallist got 50,000 US dollars. The overall prize fund of the World Championships was $5.2 million US dollars. The athletes in second place were awarded a special trophy “Will to Win” named after Soviet boxer Andrei Borzenko.
