ROME: Italy’s antitrust watchdog announced on Thursday that it is initiating a probe into Apple, the tech giant, for allegedly abusing its dominant app market position.
The competition watchdog claimed in a statement that the Silicon Valley titan “has implemented a more restrictive privacy policy for third-party app developers as compared to itself,”
Furthermore, It has expressed concerns that third-party advertisers and developers were “disadvantaged in terms of the quality of the data provided by Apple”.
According to the statement, the “alleged discriminatory conduct” might reduce third-party advertisers’ advertising income and deter rivals from entering or continuing to operate in the market for developing and distributing applications, which would be advantageous for Apple’s apps.
In the first three months of this year, Apple posted a $24 billion profit on $94.8 billion in revenue. Large-scale fines and laws to restrain their market domination have resulted from the increasing attention that US big IT corporations’ business practices have received in Europe.
