New York: The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People has unanimously elected Ahmad Faisal Muhamad, permanent envoy of Malaysia to the UN, as its vice chair and rapporteur, Arab media reported on Thursday.

UN Committee on Palestinian Rights

According to Arab News, the UN General Assembly constituted the CEIRPP in 1975 to suggest a programme to enable the Palestinians to exercise their rights to self-determination without any external interference and sovereignty to return to their properties and homes from which they (Palestinians) had been displaced.

Muhammad said that the Palestinians had been subjected to pain and despair for far too long.

He said that Malaysia was still convinced that the internationally recognized two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, could be obtained if the world, particularly the UNSC, exerted all its efforts to secure its complete implementation.

In supporting the cause of the Palestinians Muhamad added: “You can count on Malaysia’s pledge and support toward the work of this committee and the realization of the Palestinians’ absolute rights to self-determination, sovereignty and national independence.”
