Russia Says Ukrainian Aircraft Crashed in Border Region

MOSCOW: Russian FSB security service has detained the pilot of a Ukrainian light aircraft that crashed in the southern Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, according to Russian state media.

The FSB said the pilot, who is a citizen of Ukraine, was trying to escape to Ukrainian territory.

“The light aircraft, for unknown reasons, crashed near the settlement of Butovsk in Bryansk region. A border patrol detained the pilot of the aircraft (a citizen of Ukraine), who tried to escape to Ukrainian territory,” the FSB was quoted as saying by state news agency RIA Novosti.

Putin accuses West of helping Kyiv state terror attacks in Russia

In a separate development, Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Western security services of helping Kyiv stage “terror attacks” in Russia after giving an icy welcome to the new US and EU ambassadors.

Putin also accused “neo-Nazis and their accomplices” of acting in Russia and the annexed territories.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to Poland for its support since the start of Russia’s offensive.

Zelensky made a rare foreign visit to Warsaw, where Poland has pledged to provide Ukraine with weapons and to support its bid to join NATO.
