Estonian Prime Minister Kallas’s Party Wins Elections

TALLINN: Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas’s centre-right Reform Party won the general polls by a big margin Sunday, scoring 31.6 % against 16 % for the far-right EKRE, according to nearly complete results.

Kallas’s centre-right Reform Party will have to form an alliance in order to stay in power.

According to results, the centre Party took 14.7 % of the votes, Estonia 200 secured 13.5 %, while the Social Democrats got 9.4 % and the Isamaa party 8.3 %.

Prime Minister Kaja Kallas told the media that this is much better than their expectation, saying that they have ruled out an alliance with EKRE and she stands by her words.

Kallas’s Reform is a centre-right liberal party that appeals to young professionals and business owners.

The party has pledged to increase defense spending to at least 3 % of GDP and ease taxes on business.

Kallas told the media that they support an open, friendly, European, and smart country.

She said that her biggest competitor thinks, “we shouldn’t help Ukraine, we should only look for our self-interest,”.

The nation of 1.3 million people, which borders Russia and is a member of both NATO and EU, has led international calls over the past year for additional military assistance to help Kyiv after Moscow attack.
