PARIS: While strongly condemning an attack by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, France on Monday said, “violence against Palestinian civilians is absolutely unacceptable.”
The foreign ministry, in a statement, said that France “strongly condemns” the settlers’ attack targeting a town where two Israeli nationals were killed.
The ministry said that there was a threat that the situation in the occupied West Bank could “deteriorate out of control.”
France asks all parties to avoid violence
France was calling on all concerned parties “to avoid fuelling the violence and work for de-escalation,” the statement said.
The ministry said that as part of its responsibility as an occupying power, the Israeli administration needed to “protect Palestinian civilians” and find the attackers in which homes and cars were set ablaze in the northern town of Huwara.
