CAIRO: Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy has said the Palestinian cause is a key test of the credibility of the international order, citing persistent double standards and Israeli violations of international law.
Fahmy made the remarks during an open dialogue at the third edition of the Cairo Forum, where he discussed the major challenges confronting the Arab region, explored ways to strengthen security and stability, and highlighted the role of joint Arab action in responding to regional and international developments, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
He stressed the need to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state.
Arab League Secretary-General also emphasised the importance of safeguarding the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states, while supporting their national institutions as essential foundations for regional security and stability.
He said Arab security extended beyond military considerations to encompass political, economic, social and developmental dimensions.
Referring to the crises and instability affecting Syria, Sudan, Lebanon, and the Arab Gulf region, Fahmy said addressing these challenges required looking beyond their immediate consequences and tackling their underlying causes, particularly weak institutions and the accumulation of political, economic and social problems.

He stressed the need to move away from simply managing the consequences of crises towards adopting proactive strategies to prevent their recurrence.
Fahmy also called for stronger cooperation and integration among Arab countries, urging them to establish balanced relations with neighbouring states based on respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
He further emphasised the importance of engaging with the international community on the basis of equality, mutual respect and shared interests.
