ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has activated cyber patrolling units nationwide to monitor social media platforms, identify individuals involved in illegal online activities and take legal action against cybercriminals, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) said on Saturday.

The agency has intensified surveillance of online platforms to detect unlawful content, trace suspicious accounts and block links associated with illegal activities. It is also using Internet Protocol (IP) address tracing to help identify individuals operating behind suspected accounts.

Shoaib Khan said the agency was taking strict action against individuals uploading inappropriate videos, sexually harassing people online, attempting to defame others and engaging in other unlawful activities through social media.

He said the NCCIA was also addressing illegal online activities directed against the state, adding that several links had already been identified and blocked and arrests had been made.

The additional director said cyber patrolling teams were working to detect violations and ensure action against offenders in accordance with the law.

NCCIA helpline 1799 operational nationwide

Shoaib Khan said the NCCIA helpline 1799 was now fully operational across Pakistan, providing citizens with a channel to report cybercrime and seek assistance.

He said a formal complaint registration and redressal mechanism had been established to ensure that complaints were recorded and referred to the relevant officials for necessary action.
