RIYADH:  Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah on Wednesday received Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi in Riyadh, where they discussed continued Houthi attacks and also signed a protocol to establish the Saudi-Jordanian Higher Coordination Council.

During the meeting, Saudi and Jordanian foreign ministers reviewed the relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them in a manner that serves their mutual interests and strengthens cooperation across various fields, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The two sides also discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the continued attacks by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia.

Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in confronting these attacks and its unwavering support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its security, stability, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens and residents.

They also reviewed ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions, prevent the further spread of conflict, and restore regional security and stability.

These efforts underscore the importance of upholding international law, respecting the principles of good neighbourliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

Such measures are essential to maintaining the stability of global markets and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international trade.

Following the meeting, the two foreign ministers signed an amended protocol to the minutes establishing the Saudi-Jordanian Higher Coordination Council, to be chaired by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan.
